Etymologically, the word chiropractic is Greek in origin. It literally means to carry out with the hand. This method of treatment has gone of age. It is not a modern invention. However, Daniel David Palmer founded the modern chiropractic in 1895 in the United States of America. Today, chiropractic intervention has become an accepted method of treating joints, muscles, relieving backache and headache and also reducing high blood pressure.

Today, in most countries like in the US, chiropractic professional require license in order to practice. The registration or license is issued by the General Chiropractic Council. Chiropractic professionals are referred to as doctors but this is not by medical qualification. It is only a courtesy title.

However, this technique is applied on patients with history of joint instability or severe neck injury or diseases like osteoarthritis.
