When you are relocating your office, you must definitely relocate with some (if not all) of your files and important documents especially if you are going to continue in the same business and maintain the same clients and shareholders. These files and documents especially those that have been with you for years are sources of inhalation hazards. The three major inhalation hazards that you should be wary of are dust, dust mites and mold. They cause some painful symptoms to any person that is exposed to them. They may not be present on your books and files but if they are available, they will easily infiltrate the air and you will inhale them without knowing. So, you have to guide against them.

 

Dust mites 

Dust mites are among the three major inhalation hazard you and your staff will be exposed to during packing but it is not as common as the other two. You cannot see it with your naked. But there are professionals who can detect their presence with special equipment. Some people may not be allergic to it. But if you are allergic to dust mites or you are suffering from asthma and you are exposed to it, you will definitely have some symptoms such as runny nose, irritated or itchy eyes, sneezing  and shortness of breathing. The symptoms may be mild during the day but worsen at night. 

 

Mold

Mould is a type of fungus that develop in warm and damp areas with a relative humidity that is more 70 percent. This living organism is present in any place. No matter how clean your environment is, there is mold there but in inactive stage. It will only start developing and become visible when there is a favorable environment for its development. If you keep your files and document in a damp or warm area, they will develop on them. Molds are available in a number of types. There are some types that are not toxic or harmful to health. But there are some that are very toxic and harmful to health. If your files or documents are contaminated, during packing you can be exposed to it. 

 

You may not detect their physical presence with the naked eyes. But experts mold detection and remediation service providers have tools that enable them to detect the physical presence of mould. But if you don't have money to hire experts, you can do a crude test by yourself. Wipe the outside of a file, document or book with a cotton swab. If there is mold on the cotton, it is a confirmation of the presence of mould on the book. Mold remediation requires expert attention. You need to hire an expert to eliminate the mould so that you would not have to relocate with already developing mold. Once mold has started developing, it is always difficult to control them without special treatment.

 

Booklice

This is also known as psocids. They are very tiny grayish-whitish insects. If you look very sternly and carefully on your document, you may be able to see them if they are present. But it is possible for them to go unnoticed unless you aid your vision with a hand lens. They are wingless insects which survive more under a relative humidity of about 75 to 90 percent and temperature of 24 to 30 degree Celsius. There are not as harmful as the other two inhalation hazard because they do not bite animals or human beings and do not spread any disease. However, you may have skin irritation if you are exposed to them.
