Many people do not know that a lot of cough drops contain high amount of sugar which is not good for the health of your teeth. Even though they are sold at medicine store, you should avoid them or use them them sparingly in order to enhance the health of your teeth. If you must use it to treat your cough, you have to brush your teeth very well in order to get eliminate the sugar from your teeth. If you leave your teeth unbrushed after using a cough drops, you are creating a favorable environment for the plague on your teeth to survive to easily. The sugar will react with the plague on the teeth. The sugar will be converted to acid by the bacteria on the plague. The acids will eat away the enamel resulting to cavities.
Generally, sugary decay are not good to the teeth. They can give rise to tooth decay. But the degree at which they cause tooth decay differs. Gummy candies are the worse. When you eat them, they stick to your teeth causing the sugar to react with plague. The reaction will result in the conversion of sugar into acid that destroy the enamel of your teeth. If you must eat gummy candies, then you have to take it during meals so that saliva produced during meals will wash them out from your teeth.
Opening wraps and other things with your teeth
There are some people that have form the habits of opening bottle caps, plastic packages and wraps with their teeth rather than using the right tool for it. You may think that it is much easier, faster and comfortable to use your teeth. But you are only damaging your teeth. As you open things with your teeth, you are making them to crack. Overtime, the habit will lead you to a dentist office. You will spend more money and waste more of your time on something your would have avoided.
Say no soda
If you want to improve the health of your teeth, you should avoid soda. Soda contains a lot of sugar and thus the left lots of sugary particles on your teeth when you take them. Just as described above, the sugar will react with plague and it will be converted to acid which eat up the enable of your teeth. Soda is even worse than candy because it also contains citric and phosphoric acid. These acids destroy the enamel of the teeth. So, even if a soda product is advertised as sugar free, it is still not good to health as it contains acids.
Avoid or reduce your consumption of Sport drinks
Many athletes and bodybuilders take support drinks after some hours of sports in order to get refreshed. This may be good but do not overdo it otherwise you will damage your teeth. Sport drinks have sugar contents and thus also do the same damage to the teeth like soda and candy. If you want to stay hydrated after doing some workout, you have to drink calorie and sugar free water.
Avoid sugary fruit juice
Fruit juices contain a lot of vitamins and minerals. But unfortunately, there are a lot of products that are dented with sugars. You can take fruit juice but you should avoid products that contain a lot of sugar in them so that you will not damage your teeth in the process.
