There are various methods utilised in carpet cleaning. Each of the methods has its own pros and cons. Here are some of the carpet cleaning methods that you should know.
Hot water extraction
Some people refer to this method as steam cleaning. But the real term is hot water extraction. This is because what is sprayed on the carpet is not steam but hot water. Steam will definitely damage the carpet. In hot water extraction, the hot water is applied on the carpet using a machine which can be either truck mounted for commercial purpose or portable for home use. The hot water may be mixed with some detergents or cleaning solution. The dirt or particles on the carpet are vacuumed at the same time with the water.
The result achieved by this method can be affected by the following factors:
· spray pressure
· the skill and expertise of the operator
· the functionality of the vacuum
· solution temperature
· the cleaning solution used
But generally, the hot water extraction method is a very effective method when it comes to removing dirt and stains. But the problem with this method is that the water may not be entirely removed. This will make the carpet very slippery and thus very risky to walk on. It can lead to skidding. However, it can be reduced by keeping the rooms properly ventilated after cleaning to facilitate the drying process of the waters.
Shampoo carpet cleaning method
In this method of cleaning carpet, cleaning solutions are sprayed on the carpet via the opening on a rotary brush. The solution is transformed into foam by the rotary action of the machine and work on the carpet. When the foam dries, it traps dirt and debris which is vacuumed together with the dried foam. Some cleaners may add some chemicals to the cleaning solution in order to retard soiling, reduce odours, speed drying and brighten colours.
It is important for vacuuming to be done properly. If it is not done properly, the residue left on the carpet can lead to quick re-soiling by acting as soil magnet.
Hot water extraction combined with shampoo
Hot water extraction method can be combined with shampoo carpet cleaning method. The combination of the two methods makes the cleaning of tough stains easy. There are two stages in this process. The shampoo is first applied utilising the rotary brush to make stain soft. The second stage is the use of hot water without mixing it with any cleaning solution to get rid of the dirt. Though this method gives better results, it is more expensive than other methods.
Using an aerosol container, foam which is a variation of shampoo is sprayed on the carpet. A dry sponge is used to scrub the carpet and allowed to dry. The residue left have trapped dirt and stains and it is vacuumed. The advantage of this method is that it does not take time to dry because it makes use of little water. So, there is no risk of skidding.
Other carpet cleaning methods include:
· spin bonnet cleaning
· absorbent dry compound
· in-plant cleaning
